Unto These Hills Adventure

This outdoor drama in the Cherokee reservation affects many senses and lures you into a more complete understanding about the life and history of the Cherokee nation. What is most impressive is the environment in which to watch a wonderful outdoor drama. Imagine yourself on a mountain slope that has been carved right out of the woods under the stars in the Smoky Mountains on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. You do not need many special effects because the backdrop is forest, rocks, smoke and fire.

You will sit in comfort on backed seats with an ample sound system to hear the actors perform and tell the story of how the Indians had to adapt to cultural change and gain vivid insights into what it means to be a Cherokee. You will experience beautiful dances and costumes as the play proceeds through the evening.

Unto These Hills is one of the longest running outdoor dramas in the U.S., celebrating over 60 seasons.  The majority of the cast are of Cherokee decent who are not actors by trade but skilled performers who perfect their art through regular, rigorous training with a renowned group from New York. The play centers on the arrival of Europeans and forced exile of the Cherokees to Oklahoma on the infamous Trail of Tears in 1838-1839.
